“Como Come El Burro Caga el Culo” is a stoneware clay body ceramic piece of approximately fourteen by eight by 4 inches created in conversation to the reading Simulacra and Simulation written by french philosopher Jean Baudrillard. When translated into english the title reads “Like the Ass Eats, the Ass Shits” a title that works towards unfolding the conceptual and sculpture elements that allude to cycles within the piece. The shape is composed of an infinity symbol incised and cut short at the middle leaving the remnants of two pillars interwoven in dance with one another. At the peaks two distinguishing shapes grow from within the piece: a voluminous set of lips, and a roughly textured anus. The two elements are directly inspired by cycles of consumption wether that be cycles of nourishment, digestion, sexual pleasure, or aesthetics. The allusion to skin through the use of tan spray paint interacting with the blushing details of the peaks carries the intent of simulating human characteristics within an object whilst still retaining a perceivable element of non-authenticity. The uncanny valley and research within the lines of what humans perceive as visually uncomfortable also played a big role in the conceptualization and creation of this piece. Which is more of the reason why I picked a subject matter that could be considered abrasive to some audiences. This piece is a culmination of achievements and learnt processes acquired during my clay manipulation journey thus far and has represented a big leap in technical and conceptual ability for me.
